Proceeds from March, 2009 Mixed Methods meeting in Santa Monica, CA

March 2009 Conference February 15 Details

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Santa Monica, CA March 18-19.  The meeting will begin with a dinner at 7pm on March 17th and will end on the 19th at 2:30pm. We will be meeting at the Sheraton Delfina (530 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405).

Hotel.  We have reserved single, non-smoking rooms at the Sheraton Delfina, for the nights of March 17th and 18th for everyone. You do not need to contact the hotel directly.  If you need a change made to your reservation or you will not need lodging at all, please let me know as soon as possible and I will communicate with the hotel.  I will forward individual confirmation numbers for the hotel rooms when we get closer to the meeting.

Travel.  Please go ahead and book your own travel—flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is easiest.  We will reimburse you after the meeting.

Next Steps.  We are beginning to plan the agenda and would like feedback from participants about the best use of our time together.  Please email brief answers to the following questions to me by next Friday, February 13.
1.      Where are you in the course of your project (design, data collection, analysis, etc.)?
2.      What are some challenges related to conducting mixed method research that are you currently grappling with that you think would be useful to discuss with peers and consultants?
3.      Are you utilizing any of the following software packages in your study: Dedoose, Nvivo, Atlas.ti, or MAXQDA?  If so, would you be interested in leading a demo on the strengths and weaknesses of this program during the meeting?  If you do not use any of the above, what qualitative software packages, if any, are you using?
4.      Which of the following formats do you think would be most useful to learn about software programs:
§       Concurrent small group sessions on different software applications where participants could choose one to learn about in more detail.
§       One large group session where 3 different software products are highlighted briefly with cross-cutting discussion about relative strengths and weaknesses.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
